Why we only sell Elite Shungite Water Kits.

Shungite water

This update informs our wonderful Customers of our new policy and beliefs on making Shungite water. We have done this because of the latest research that we have studied on Shungite shards/rocks and the potential for some heavy metals to leach into the water. While this is only a small amount, and it seems it would take a long time for any possible issues to occur, we still feel it is best to move over to Elite completely. We were distressed when we read this and decided to cease all sales of Shungite shards for water purification. Please see below for a small summary from the scientific paper and a link to read the paper in full.

Upon reflection, most research that was carried out on producing Shungite water was done many years ago. Since that time, very few updates have been given. This is why keeping up with the latest research on Shungite is so essential. We have had many conversations recently with our Next Generation Elite Powder manufacturers, who have said before that they extract any heavy metals from their Elite before producing their powder. While Shungite has been proven to be a safe mineral, this problem seems to come from the shards submerged in the water for a long time.

There is no problem when using shards in other ways; in fact, when used for crop and soil enrichment, they are superb!

Here is the summary of the paper for you to read.

“The results showed that various heavy metals like nickel, copper, lead, cadmium, zinc, chromium and arsenic are leaching from shungite into water. Lead and cadmium exceeded the maximum acceptable concentration in drinking water for a few days, but nickel exceeded for up to 2 weeks. At the same time, shungite showed good adsorption properties towards copper. Nevertheless, before using shungite in drinking water treatment, it would be advisable to assess the necessity and/or wash shungite with larger volumes of water for a longer period of time than is written in the instructions.”
